With WorldPenScan X, there is no need to worry about jotting down a lengthy book excerpt or finding someone to translate a document for you.
Manufactured by California-based PenPower, Inc., the WorldPenScan X is a digital pen that connects to iOS, Android, Windows, and Mac OS devices to digitise and subsequently scan and translate text from any hardcopy documents or sources.
Think of having a digital copy typist and a translator. The device can be useful in several situations including understanding a menu from a Japanese restaurant, reading a jargon-filled professional or technical document, and learning foreign languages such as French, Mandarin, and Spanish.
“With this scanner, users can extract printed sentences and convert them into texts on the smart phone,” said PenPower USA. “By integrating with translation software, WorldPenScan X can turn your smart phone into an electronic translator.”
WorldPenScan X pairs with a smart or computing device via Bluetooth 4.0 to facilitate data transmission within a distance of 1 meter. Its hardware is also capable of scanning characters sized 6 to 22 pt. at 10 cm per second.
Additional features include support for Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Arabic, Vietnamese and other languages on mobile devices.
Aside from supporting multiple languages, the device also recognises barcodes and bank fonts such as OCR-A, OCR-B, and MICR on PCs.
The manufacturer, PenPower, Inc., is a wholly owned subsidiary of China-based PenPower Technology. The company specialises in devices with built-in smart human-machine interface technologies, business productivity software, and Asian language-based software and mobile electronics.
